How to choose the right carpet for your event
2021-07-28
Floor coverings are an irreplaceable component of any event. While carpets at home serve primarily as an ergonomic and design component, at events they combine multiple functions at the same time. Colourful and diverse, floor coverings can represent the organiser's corporate image, distinguish the different areas of the congress and even mark the direction of the aisles (which in today's times is very useful).
In this article we tell you about the most popular floor coverings and how to choose the best option according to the specific needs of your event.
- - Artificial grass: perfect for outdoor events and seating areas. There are different types of artificial grass available on the market, which can vary in the density of the strokes or thickness. There are some products that look realistic, beautiful and are very soft to walk on even barefoot, which makes them perfect also for children's events. Their biggest advantage is that they come in rolls and can cover any surface. Another advantage is that they are waterproof and do not mould if they get wet in the rain.
- - Exhibition carpet: the most common solution for trade fairs and congresses, these carpets are thin, refined and come in a variety of colours. They are perfect for use in the aisles between stands or for red carpet events. Textures can vary according to the specific budget, with the cheapest being quite fine and the higher class range - denser and thicker.
- - Carpet tiles: carpet tiles are special textile squares of 50x50cm or 1x1m and are currently the most environmentally friendly solution for events. They are made from recycled material and, unlike the previous options, can be used several times for different events. When they pay for themselves, they are recycled, which makes them a very sustainable solution in the long term. They come in 16 different colours and the best thing is that you can create different mosaics to mark directions, differentiate functional areas of the event or simply create fun designs. You can check out some examples here.
- - Custom printing: for the most exquisite tastes, this option allows you to have virtually any type of image or pattern printed on the carpet. The image is printed onto the material via a high-tech printer, allowing you to have anything, including your logo, printed on the floor.

Premium at the Iberian Mice Forum Sitges edition
2021-06-22
On June 15th the national edition of Iberian Mice Forums was inaugurated in Sitges, Catalonia, where Premium participated as a sponsor of the event, providing furniture and carpeting for the different areas. The platform is known as an organiser of networking events in the MICE sector.
Ángeles Moreno, Director of The Creative Dots; Iñaki Collado, President of the Association of Incentive Agencies, Javier Batanero, Director of Marketing, e-commerce and Digital Transformation at Shared-C and María Gómez, President of the Event Managers Association of Spain (EMA), were the protagonists of the panel held in the incomparable setting of the Finca Mas Solers. The members of the EMA Board of Directors, Pilar Jiménez and Rafael Grande, were in charge of moderating the debate.
The panel, held during the thirtieth edition of Iberian MICE Forums, highlighted the importance of renewing the Event Manager business model so that it can offer new and better services that strengthen companies' marketing strategies.
"We are looking for a business model that is not the one we have been using for two decades, but one that is scalable, adaptable, sustainable and resilient. Therefore, we need a new value proposition, as well as new solutions and services for our clients," said Óscar Cerezales, Global CEO of the Corporate Division of the MCI Group, in an explanatory video.
María Gómez, President of the EMA, an association that brings together 320 corporate event organisers from the most important companies in the country, stressed that the event organiser needs to use digital tools such as e-mail marketing and also to know about communication strategies that enhance the value and commitment of the event.
"Events should be content generators and should have clear objectives. If we do an event as part of a campaign we need to understand the KPIs (results) - what do you get when you know that you've sent out 2,000 invitations and only 20 have registered? The Event Manager has to know that, he or she has to be integrated in the marketing or communication team to give that feedback," says María Gómez.
In terms of business consultancy, Ángeles Moreno commented that the Event Manager must change the idea that the event has a purely social value and begin to highlight its role as a business tool. To do this, he or she needs to take on a leadership role within companies and focus on obtaining data that benefits the purpose, strategy and return on investment of the event.
"He has to take a leadership role, clearly understanding what his purpose is in the organisation and position himself as a person who understands how to make the event stakeholders grow with the events and bring value back to the organisation," stressed Ángeles Moreno, founder of The Creatives Dots.
The two-day event was attended by more than 150 event professionals, who were welcomed by the Mayor of Sitges, Aurora Carbonell i Abella; Luis Miguel García Alcaraz, First Deputy Mayor, Councillor for Institutional Relations and Councillor for Tourism; María Sánchez Quintana, head of the Sitges Convention Bureau, Cristina Muñoz, Director of the Mas Solers Estate and Andrés Merino, Founder and Director of Iberian MICE Forums.
The corporate event organisers, companies and suppliers present took advantage of the occasion to participate in leadership workshops, discover unique venues in various Spanish destinations and establish alliances for the reactivation of the sector.
The IMF Sitges National Edition included destination presentations, an inspirational motivational talk by Francisco Unda, intense one-to-one appointment sessions, a gastronomic tapas team building and a catamaran trip along the coastline of the destination.
The event was an injection of optimism and good feelings about the imminent reactivation of the national MICE sector.

How to organise more sustainable events part III
2021-05-17
The main objective of events is to create impact. Business impact, achieving certain objectives or audiences and establishing long-term customer relationships. In the context of over-consumption, resource drain and climate change, perhaps inspiring positive behavioural change is an impact that also matters a lot. In the last two articles, we have focused on ways in which you could make your event more sustainable in terms of planning, recycling, venue and suppliers. Today our focus would be on the attendees; the steps you could take to involve them in your sustainability campaign and how to inspire them to talk more about this topic, incorporate green habits and generally be part of the change we all need to see.

How to organise more sustainable events part II
2021-04-6
Today we are going to focus more on the measures you can take to make your event more sustainable and minimise the environmental footprint of your event. It is very important to segment each component of the production and see how to create a sustainable strategy for each one.
The biggest factor in terms of CO2 emissions is still transport. According to statistics, more than 70% of CO2 emissions are caused by air transport. This comes as no surprise, as we travel more than ever before and air transport allows us to reach almost any destination quickly. It is no secret that for large events, such as congresses and exhibitions, attendees travel by air. The good news is that you can now buy CO2 offset flights. This is possible thanks to platforms like FlyGRN that invest in green causes like solar projects and refugee camps. You can install a FlyGRN search widget on your event website. This way visitors can search for flights through FlyGRN and the CO2 compensation is always included in the price. If they book a flight via this widget, the emissions will be offset automatically.
When you are in the early stages of planning an event, you can choose cities that have a good public transport system and work with the company to offer discounts to attendees. You could also choose a city with a car-free city centre or book hotels near the venue so that attendees can get there on foot.
Another good measure you can take is to hire a local transportation company with hybrid cars that can take care of airport - hotel - venue transfers and offer your attendees discounts or even coupons if they choose this option.
However, each of these options still leaves a mark. If you really want to go one step further, you can take advantage of the advancement of modern technology and organise multiple simultaneous events with live streaming instead of having a single event that would require international transport.
Let's take a closer look at possible solutions to minimise the footprint of your event through a conscious choice of suppliers. A very important part of the event is the catering. According to statistics, one of the most common mistakes event planners make is providing too much food, which then goes to waste. To be more specific, approximately 1/3 of the contracted food is thrown away. Due to specific laws in most countries, food that is not consumed during the event cannot be redirected and must be thrown away. Considering that there are countries where malnutrition is the biggest problem, it is really necessary to change the philosophy of overconsumption. Ask your attendees about their dietary preferences and plan quantities and portions better. It is better to hire local suppliers who do not use plastic containers, but reusable glass plates. Choose seasonal and organic food, with less meat products. Mass production of meat is also responsible for CO2 emissions.
If you rent furniture for your event, choose a local supplier, whose warehouse is close to the venue, this way you are indirectly limiting the CO2 emitted during the logistical processes. Make sure that the supplier has a sustainability certificate or contributes to socially responsible companies. Premium, for example, has included in its products sustainable carpet tiles that improve the acoustics of the venue and allow you to mark the aisles in an original and agile way.
As for the choice of venue, there is a lot you can do. More and more venues are taking steps to be more sustainable. If possible, choose buildings that are LEED certified; this is an internationally recognised green building certification system. Implementing solar panels, collecting rainwater, using sewage or supporting local NGOs are examples of possible measures. Even if your chosen location is not LEED certified, ask what measures they take to be more sustainable. The Tesla company has just launched a solar panel rental service. It is possible to power the sound system and LED lights entirely with solar energy, so this could be a very good solution for less nuclear energy consumption.
Do your research, brainstorm, negotiate with local companies and communicate the green options to your event attendees. Chances are they will be willing to contribute to this cause and be part of the actions. Knowledge is power, so use it to make a positive change. Last but not least: don't be shy and promote the actions you have taken to inspire role models among attendees and event planners.
